The Police Jury has the authority to appoint special districts, boards, commissions, etc. for the purpose of providing specific services for a designated area within the Parish. Each of these districts and boards governs its own activities and has its own budget.

As it relates to the gravity drainage lateral infrastructure, the Police Jury has created two Consolidated Gravity Drainage Districts to oversee the activities related to the maintenance, operation, and improvement of this infrastructure. Gravity Drainage District No. 1 represents all of West Calcasieu Parish and Gravity Drainage District No. 2  represents all of East Calcasieu Parish.
