The Calcasieu Parish Planning and Zoning Board meets once a month to discuss requests for rezoning, zoning exceptions, zoning variances, flood variances, subdivision approval, and road abandonments.

At a minimum, the following must be submitted to the Division of Planning and Development:
- Completed application form
- Site plan
- Deed with legal description
- Filing fee (typically $200, but fee varies)
- Other supporting documents
Application deadline is six weeks prior to the desired meeting date. The Planning staff will post a sign on the property in question, take a video, and run a legal notice in the official parish journal. Requests for rezoning and road abandonments also appear before the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for final action.
