TRIAD

TRIAD is a partnership between the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, Sheriff, District Attorney, City Marshal, and City of Lake Charles. TRIAD identifies and develops programs to address the needs and concerns of senior citizens such as: effective crime prevention and education programs, aimed at reducing the criminal victimization of senior citizens.

PURPOSE:
To increase awareness of crimes against senior citizens.
To sponsor programs for senior citizens to reduce fear of crime and educate older citizens about preventive measures they can take to protect themselves.
To emphasize the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of senior citizens as crimes.
To improve communication and understanding between seniors and law enforcement.
To improve communication and understanding of the different roles of elder abuse agencies and other appropriate organizations.

WHAT DOES TRIAD DO FOR SENIOR CITIZENS?

Educate -- TRIAD sponsors seminars and workshops on crime prevention, health care, and other important concerns of senior citizens.
Outreach -- Through programs designed to help our homebound seniors, TRIAD helps to reduce fear and increase peace of mind.
Forges Links -- TRIAD provides a forum to discuss the concerns of seniors, identify problems, and develops and implements community-wide solutions.

WHAT CAN RESULT FROM TRIAD?

Seniors benefit from regular contact with service providers and gain knowledge of available services.
Law enforcement gains a better understanding of seniors’ fears and concerns, enabling law enforcement to develop programs to meet those needs.
Service organizations benefit from improved distribution of services, cooperation with other providers, and a better understanding of the challenges facing law enforcement.

TRIAD ACTIVITIES

• Survey seniors to determine crime-related concerns.
• Workshops on local crime, personal, home, shopping, banking safety
• Telemarketing scams, consumer fraud, and elderly abuse.
• Distribution of Vial of Life and other personal and home safety devices
• Holiday Safety workshops
• Senior Citizens Academy.

TRIAD VOLUNTEERS

Residents 55 years and older can volunteer with TRIAD, Connections for Independent Living (CIL), or Buddy Programs. TRIAD volunteers help organize workshops, man booths at health fairs, help with
neighborhood watch programs, etc.

CIL volunteers deliver meals to sick and shut-ins, pick up medications or groceries, read the mail to visually impaired, etc.
Buddy volunteers telephone to check on homebound or elderly individuals living alone

SENIOR CITIZENS ACADEMY

Calcasieu Parish seniors are invited to join the “Senior Citizens Academy.” The Academy provides the opportunity for seniors to learn more about their community with important topics such as the role of law enforcement in Calcasieu Parish, and how they can help keep their streets safe. The Calcasieu TRIAD Senior Citizens Academy will provide similar topics each month to offer a rewarding learning experience for seniors in our parish.

Registration is free and open to anyone 55 years of age or older. Monthly sessions will be approximately three hours long and include a continental breakfast and/or lunch to registered participants. Academy participants will be required to attend one educational activity per month for six months starting in June. FREE GOVERNMENT AID FOR SENIORS

 Often, elderly residents find it hard to  take care of all the bills, get health checkups regularly, consume enough nutritious foods, and perform other day-to-day activities without help. But, there is help. There are dozens of government aid programs available specifically for seniors. The guide, "Free Government Aid for Seniors" provided by senior living.org, gives expert insight on government aid for the elderly. It goes over all the different categories and specific programs available to seniors.
