Calcasieu Parish residents may be eligible for financial assistance for their electricity bill expenses through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LiHEAP).
LiHEAP assists residents with electricity and gas utility expenses based on their total income. Priority is given to residents over 60 years of age, households with children under 5 years of age, and residents with disabilities. On average, LiHEAP helps 6,000 people annually in Calcasieu Parish.
Applications will be accepted in person from 8 a.m.-noon at 2001 Moeling St. in Lake Charles on the following Fridays: Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.
No appointment is needed to apply on these days. Assistance is open to new clients and clients who have not received a cooling benefit since April 1 or a crisis benefit since Jan. 1.

When applying, residents must provide the following: proof of identity, social security card, proof of address, income verification (30 days) and most recent bill of active energy account.
