CPPJ’s Communications and Media Wins National Award for Courthouse Flag Video

Post Date:10/02/2025

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Communications and Media Department has been honored with an Award of Excellence from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) for its video, “How to Change the Flag on the Courthouse Dome.”

The video earned the award in the Education/Training Video category at 3CMA’s national conference last month. Founded in 1988, 3CMA is a national organization that supports local government communicators and marketers through networking, professional development, and recognition programs that help improve public engagement.

The three-minute video offers a bird’s-eye view of CPPJ Facility Management staff demonstrating the step-by-step process of lowering and replacing the flag atop the Historic Calcasieu Courthouse, located at 1000 Ryan Street in Lake Charles.

One judge remarked, “The shots of staff on the dome were amazing. It really felt like you were there with them during the process. While many take for granted the flags around us, there are amazing workers who keep up with this important tradition.”

“I really appreciate when our parish employees are willing to step in front of the camera and share their story. It shows how much pride they take in their work and the people they serve. Our media team works hard to tell those stories with quality and creativity,” said Dane Bolin, Parish Administrator. “I’m proud of our team for earning this recognition. This video is a great example of their talent and their ability to create something that truly connects with our community.”

“Our Communications and Media team knocked it out of the park with this one. You can really see the heart and effort they put into their work. This award just confirms what we already know: they care deeply about telling our employees and community’s stories the right way,” said Police Jury President Judd Bares.
