The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Human Services Department will begin taking applications again for its Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program to help eligible residents with housing and rental expenses.
The program helps eligible Calcasieu Parish residents achieve housing stability during a time of economic distress by helping households with past-due housing expenses.
The ERA Program will begin taking applications again on Dec. 15-31. The online application system will accept applications on the same dates every month.
Here are the scheduled dates for 2023:
- Jan. 15-31
- Feb.15-28
- March 15-31
- April 15-30
- May 15-31
- June 15-30
Due to the limited amount of funds that remain, Calcasieu’s ERA has restricted assistance to one round per household. This means households are not eligible for additional assistance if they have already received help from the ERA Program.
To be eligible for the program, one or more members of a household must meet all of these criteria:
- The household must NOT have received ERA Program assistance previously.
- Must be experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
- Must reside in Calcasieu Parish.
- Can demonstrate they are at-risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
- Must earn less than 80 percent of the area median income.
As part of this requirement, residents must provide their 2021 tax returns to prove their household incomes.
AMI for Calcasieu Parish, based on household size, is as follows:
- One-person household- $40,500
- Two-person Household- $46,300
- Three-person household- $52,100
- Four-person household- $57,850
- Five-person household- $62,500
- Six-person household- $67,150
Residents can begin to apply for assistance online at 8 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 by visiting calcasieuparish.gov/ERA to complete the application. Please note that this link will not be live until 8 a.m. on Dec. 15.
