The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury approved the Calcasieu Long-Term Community Recovery Plan at its Aug. 19 regular meeting.
The document is the collaborative result of more than eight months of research and planning by six stakeholder groups focused on key recovery areas. The plan outlines specific priorities for Calcasieu Parish to fully rebuild and recover from the storms and to create a stronger, more resilient community.
The first draft was presented on July 22. The Police Jury then asked the public to read the plan and offer comments and input. The public input was then incorporated in the final plan.

The six stakeholder groups -- named Recovery Support Functions (RSFs) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency-- are led and organized by Calcasieu Parish residents and key leaders in their respective disciplines. The RSFs include planning and capacity building, economic development, health and social services, housing, infrastructure, and natural and cultural resources.
“Our team is very pleased with the comments that we received, said Alberto Galan, Assistant to the Parish Administrator. "We actually incorporated it into our final document, so what was presented before has changed a bit to incorporate the community’s feedback, but for a large part of the document, we really feel like we hit the nail on the head."
